Missy Elliott "Iconology" Album Stream, Cover Art & Tracklist - HipHopDX

Missy Elliott is back with her first project in almost 15 years. Days before she receives MTV’s Video Vanguard Award, the influential artist has dropped a surprise release titled Iconology.

“Let’s #ThrowItBack to a time when music just felt good and made us want to dance!” she wrote on Twitter and Instagram.

Missy has called the project a “collection of new songs.” The EP marks her return after last dropping The Cookbook LP in 2005.

Hasbro Acquires Entertainment One in $4 Billion All-Cash Deal - Variety

Toymaker Hasbro is acquiring studio Entertainment One in an all-cash transaction valued at $4 billion, bringing My Little Pony and Nerf under the same umbrella as “Peppa Pig” and “PJ Masks” and furthering Hasbro’s growth goals in the infant and preschool categories.

Hasbro aims to expand its operations in film and TV. Entertainment One’s production infrastructure in multiple markets and its children’s programming IP made it an attractive target for Hasbro. Sources say the news came as a surprise to most people at Entertainment One.

Top eOne execs will join the Hasbro team, said the companies in a joint statement. The independent studio pointed to its kid-friendly fare, noting that it has been transforming its business to focus on “high-quality premium talent-driven content,” including its “Clifford the Big Red Dog” and “Monster Problems.”

But the sale to Hasbro raises questions about whether eOne will remain in the business of producing adult-focused movies and TV series. Entertainment One’s active slate includes Netflix’s “Trailer Park Boys” and We TV’s “Growing Up Hip Hop: New York.”

On the investor call after the market close Thursday, Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner highlighted the potential to mesh eOne’s strength as a studio with Hasbro’s intellectual property.

“With eOne’s content creation capabilities … we can reach audience on all screens,” including cable and streaming, he said on the call.

Hasbro and Paramount Pictures in 2017 inked a deal to make live-action and animated films based on the toymaker’s intellectual property, but execs on the call indicated that that partnership would continue, even after the acquisition of eOne, opening the door to Paramount to further develop Hasbro’s IP.

Noting that eOne is profitable and that half of its EBITDA last came from its family brand portfolio, Goldner called “Peppa Pig” and “PJ Masks” “highly profitable and merchandisable.”

Per the terms of the deal, eOne shareholders will receive 5.60 pounds per common share, a 31% premium to eOne’s 30-day volume weight average price as of Thursday. Hasbro said the deal will be financed with the proceeds of debt financing and $1 billion to $1.25 billion in cash from equity financing.

“The acquisition of eOne adds beloved story-led global family brands that deliver strong operating returns to Hasbro’s portfolio and provides a pipeline of new brand creation driven by family-oriented storytelling, which will now include Hasbro’s IP,” said Goldner in a statement. “In addition, Hasbro will leverage eOne’s immersive entertainment capabilities to bring our portfolio of brands that have appeal to gamers, fans and families to all screens globally and realize full franchise economics across our blueprint strategy for shareholders. We are excited to welcome eOne’s talented employees from around the world into the Hasbro family.”

Adding eOne to Hasbro will be accretive to adjusted EPS in the first year after the transaction, with mid- to high-teens accretion to adjusted EPS in the third full year after the close of the deal.

Entertainment One chairman of the board Allan Leighton said that he is “very pleased by this exciting development,” calling it a testament to eOne’s management vision, leadership and execution.

“Hasbro’s portfolio of integrated toy, game and consumer products, will further fuel the tremendous success we’ve achieved at eOne,” said eOne CEO Darren Throop. “There’s a strong cultural fit between our two companies; eOne’s stated mission is to unlock the power and value of creativity which aligns with Hasbro’s corporate objectives. eOne teams will continue to do what they do best, bolstered by the access to Hasbro’s extensive portfolio of richly creative IP and merchandising strength. Spicer on an ABC dancing show? "It's a slap in the face" - CNN

Some staffers at ABC News are "up in arms," as one source put it, over the decision by ABC's entertainment division.

The network is casting the former White House press secretary, best known for his obfuscation on behalf of President Trump, for what's supposed to be a delightful dance-off.

But Wednesday's announcement took a dramatic turn when complaints were expressed externally when over Spicer's role, with one internal complaint coming from "Dancing" host Tom Bergeron, who shared his views publicly.

There were also grumbles inside ABC News, especially because "Dancing" is constantly promoted by the news division, especially by "Good Morning America."

Nine sources in and around the news division at ABC spoke to CNN Business on the condition of anonymity about this discomfort within the ranks.

The staffers expressed a range of opinions — some said there was just "eye rolling" going on. A couple said they didn't care about the Spicer pick. One remarked, "How long do you really think he's going to last?" But others said they were pissed.

"It's a slap in the face to those of us who had to deal with his baloney and the consequences of the ongoing lies and disinformation campaign at the White House," one of the staffers said.

Spicer was "horrible" to "so many of us," another ABC source said. "It's disgusting to think he is getting on the show and getting paid by our company."

When reached by phone on Wednesday night, Spicer responded to the criticism by saying, "I think this is an entertainment show. I look forward to having some fun. And if people are looking for news, I suggest they tune into a news program."

The next season of "Dancing With the Stars" is set to start on September 16.

Going on "Dancing" isn't typically a height-of-your-fame move. As New York Times TV critic James Poniewozik wrote on Wednesday, "you could say that being cast on ABC's 'Dancing With the Stars' is punishment enough. It is not generally a sign of a thriving career."

One of the ABC sources quipped that the reality show could be called "Dancing with the Down and Out."

Spicer, for his part, said in response to the Times column, "I am very happy with who I am and who I support. I'm not changing. I am giving people another opportunity to see a side of me that is different."

But that still poses a predicament to ABC News staffers who are charged with promoting the show.

The broader question is this: How should ex-White House officials be treated when they spend months misleading the American people, then seek positions of fame and privilege? Spicer, for instance, was scrutinized when he was awarded a visiting fellowship at Harvard in 2017.

These questions are especially tricky when Trump administration veterans interact with news organizations. It is no wonder why Spicer and his successor in the press secretary role, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, have not been hired as political analysts by any TV networks — they spent their days undermining the networks and defending a president who calls the news media the "enemy of the people."

One of the sources at ABC News acknowledged this tension. Sure, they said, the producers of "Dancing With the Stars" are supposed to pick whoever is going to supply the most buzz. But for "GMA" to lean into it — by setting up a faux White House podium for his intro on Wednesday -- is problematic. The source said "GMA" is like two universes on one show, with the 7 a.m. hour reporting on Trump's mendacity and then the 8 a.m. hour, with big "Dancing" promos, treating it as one big joke.

According to Variety, Spicer will earn six figures by being on the show. The Hollywood trade publication reported that that contestants make $125,000 for the rehearsal period and the first two weeks on air. If they make it further, Variety reported, contestants continue earning additional fees, maxing out at $295,000.

Bergeron raised eyebrows when he said in a tweet, hours after the "GMA" reveal event, that he hoped the new season "would be a joyful respite from our exhausting political climate and free of inevitably divisive bookings from any party affiliation."

He said the show's producers decided to "go in a different direction."

Responding to Bergeron's statement, Spicer told CNN Business, "I think Tom has been a great host. And I firmly believe when the season is over he's probably going to realize bringing a diverse group of people together, who can interact in a fun, civil and respectful way, is actually a way we can move the country forward in a positive way. And it will make this show an example of how Americans can disagree about politics and tune into good entertainment shows and keep their politics at bay."

Bethenny Frankel Is Leaving The Real Housewives of New York - E! NEWS

Forgive us as we're off to cry in the fish room. 

Bethenny Frankel is leaving The Real Housewives of New York ahead of the 12th season, according to Variety. 

"I have decided to leave the Housewives franchise to explore my next chapter," she said in a statement to Variety. "It's time to move on and focus on my daughter, my philanthropy and my production partnership with Mark Burnett, producing and starring in shows which represent a shift in the conversation for women. With the changes in modern culture, I want to highlight the strength, confidence and unstoppable power that women have. My experience at Bravo has been an incredibly magical ride. I am so grateful to them for highlighting my entrepreneurialism and allowing me to pave the way for many women to achieve their goals. I am excited for my future. The best is yet to come." 

A source tells E! News that Bethenny's castmates are "flabbergasted" and did not see this coming. 

"Filming just started and there was no indication of this...Everyone was under the assumption she would be filming," the source said. 

Bethenny was an original cast member when she show premiered in 2008, left during the third season, and then returned in season seven in 2015. Season 11 was a particularly tough time for Frankel, who was going through a difficult custody battle with ex-husband Jason Hoppy and was dealing with the death of her ex Dennis Shields. Season 11 also found Bethenny having a meltdown in Miami in Luann de Lesseps' face. 

She also has been doing humanitarian work in areas affected by tragedy and natural disasters, and signed a new deal with MGM in March to produce and potentially appear on her own un-scripted shows with Mark Burnett, so Bethenny clearly has a lot on her plate. 

The Real Housewives of New York will return for season 12 later this year with remaining cast members Luann de Lesseps, Dorinda Medley, Ramona Singer, Sonja Morgan, and Tinsley Mortimer. 

E! and Bravo are both part of the NBC Universal family.

Jay Roach, who has usually been found documenting real-life scandals and political maneuvers for HBO, teamed up with The Big Short writer Charles Randolph for this one. IT'll follow Ailes' rise and fall. He ran Fox News and helped launch the careers of Megyn Kelly (Theron), Gretchen Carlson (Kidman), and Sean Hannity (Spencer Garrett) with his powerful channel. He also was also a prominent figure in Republican circles who helped elect presidents Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and George Bush. He was forced to resign in 2016 due to sexual harassment allegations, with Carlson and Kelly’s the most high-profile, and which contributed to his exit from the network.

Alice Eve, Kate McKinnon, Rob Delaney, Allison Janney and Stephen Root are also featured in the cast, and Bombshell lands in the US on 20 December but has yet to confirm a solid UK release. We'd expect it early next year.

Tom Bergeron doesn't sound thrilled about the new 'DWTS' cast - CNN

The show's host, Tom Bergeron, tweeted a statement Wednesday after the new cast of contestants, which includes former White House press secretary Sean Spicer, was announced.

Bergeron wrote that during a lunch with an executive producer for "Dancing With the Stars," he had offered up some suggestions for Season 28.

"Chief among them was my hope that DWTS, in its return from an unprecedented year-long hiatus, would be a joyful respite from our exhausting political climate and free of inevitably divisive bookings from any party affiliation," Bergeron wrote. "I left that lunch convinced we were in agreement."

Bergeron didn't mention Spicer directly, but, he noted in his post, the show's producers decided to "go in a different direction."

"We can all agree to disagree, as we do now, but ultimately it's their call," he said. "I'll leave it to them to answer any further questions about those decisions."

During the cast announcement on "Good Morning America on Wednesday, Bergeron cracked a joke about Spicer.

"The nice thing is, Sean will be in charge of assessing audience size," Bergeron quipped, poking fun at the controversy over the crowd size at the 2017 inauguration of President Donald Trump.

The joke didn't go over too well on social media, nor were some people happy with Spicer's addition to the cast.

"None of this is funny. This man knowingly and blatantly lied to the American people in his official capacity as a government servant of the people," one person tweeted. "He helped create the atrocity that is still in office. Shame on ABC."

CNN has reached out to Spicer for comment.
